Lion Henry Morozumi, Candidate for Deputy District Governor, 13-H

CINCINNATI HOST LIONS CLUB WRITE-UP FOR 2003 ANNUAL CONVENTION

Cincinnati Host Lions Club was chartered on the 23rd September, 1920 and the Club celebrates its 83rd year anniversary this year, which makes us one of the oldest Service Clubs in North America. Henry Morozumi is its 81th and 82nd President. John Nurre, for example, has been a member for 52 years and he has been very active member of the club. Nurres have been very helpful to students from overseas, especially ones from Japan because we have a Twin Club with Japan. He extends his warm welcome to students during summer vacations and Christmas Holidays to his home. His sons are also members of the club.

Our recent activities include, in cooperation with Habitat for Humanity, construction of two houses at Peabody Ave. Cincinnati, A $3,000 donation to purchase Video acoustical telephone for deaf and blind people, $1,000 donation for purchasing image magnifying computer for down town Cincinnati Public Library. Other recent donations to Ohio LCF, Clovernook, Roark Education Center and etc are more than $2,500. Thus 2002 donation total is more than $6,500.

We also participated in Prevent Blindness exhibit at All About Kids show at Cincinnati Convention Center, Poinsettia sales during Christmas and Rose sale in spring. We have been working 4 hours/day twice a week every week at Concession stand selling popcorn and soft drinks and sandwiches. Henry Morozumi put in more than 200 hours in making 13H websites and its maintenance. 13H now have 100% participation. ie all of District 13H clubs have their own website and maintaining it. We believe 13H is the first District in Ohio to have 100% website participation.

Internationally, we are Twin Club with Gifujyo Lions Club in Japan. We have exchanges of website information and Newsletters. We sent more than 10,000 eye-glasses to Mongolia last year. Mongolia is located between China and Russia. Through our website, British Isles and Ireland Multiple District 105 Lions Club visited Cincinnati Host Lions Club. We communicate with Lions Clubs in Japan, England, Canada, France, Italy, India, Pakistan, Turkey, Australia and many other countries in the world through Internet and website. Our web hit count on Lionwap is currently number one in the United States.

As for our future plans, while continuing what we have been doing now, our goals and emphasis are particularly directed towards membership increase, retention and extension. We also would like to further develop our website communication technique so that it could be used to help MERL* goals. Web master of each club may work with other Districts so that this technique could be expanded to entire Ohio Lions Clubs.

PEACE ON EARTH

Please wait till you see three pictures below.

To: Fellow Lions in Zone 5, District 13H, State of Ohio and the US and the 44,800 clubs in the world! Seasons Greetings! We would like to start opinion exchanges and forum by using e-mails, starting in New Year of 2002. Our main goal is to make contributions to the World Peace and Prosperity. The Greater Cincinnati area is the home of the world largest Peace Bell (66,000 lbs. musical specification, G natural with C natural overtone, the sound of the Peace Bell is awesome!) manufactured in France. We would like to take the World Peace Initiative for this reason. The Bell is dedicated to the children of the world for the global harmony. We are noting decreasing primary natural resources on the earth. Population increase has been observed in a Malthusian manner. However, we are not explicitly realizing limitation in human capability, especially that of intellectual capability, which is very important. Realization of these factors will make us more mature and we will see second Renaissance of mankind for coexistence, cooperation and coprosperity in the Darwinian environment. Please click International Opinion Exchanges and write your opinion on wide variety of subjects. It could be current events, your new projects, cultural advices, economic matters, social matters, any questions and comments on technical matters on website etc. We will publish them for further discussion and comments. International participation quite welcome! This Forum is open to anyone!

Essay on the Earth-Man System

by Dr. Henry M Morozumi

morozumi@earthlink.net

(1)

Introduction

This is the first of the series papers on THE EARTH-MAN SYSTEM, Definition of the Earth-Man System and its Darwinian operating environment and actual results of various ideologies. It appears that up till 20th Century, a speed of progress has been manageable by men and Adam Smith's laissez faire was working. However, the 21st Century appears a breaking point in the operation of the earth-man system in many respect. Population of the earth will exceed 10 billion in the early part of the 21st Century. There will be many problems associated with it: shortage of natural resources, environmental problems and others. Speed of globalization is such that any plan must include a worldwide parameters otherwise it will not succeed. However, there is a more fundamental question posed on us. Is this fast speed of changes suitable for average human beings? If not, probably a Darwinian evolutional force will produce "homosapience plus". Is this desirable?

The Earth-Man System

There are several axioms that describe the present earth-man system. First, the size of the earth is fixed and all the natural resources have a limited amount. Secondly, it appears that human intellectual capability has a limit and we do not expect any quantum change (eg a man with an I.Q. 800) in the foreseeable future. This means that an advent of a group of being beyond homo sapience that have a similar capability delta between men and ape is not expected in the near future. Thirdly, population growth is very rapid and proceeding in a manner described by Malthus. Currently there are about 6 billion people on the earth. However, according to various calculations, the earth cannot hold more than 10 billion people in the manner we are operating the earth and it will not be too long before population reaches 10 billion. Another important aspect is that most of the population increase is in the developing countries.

Darwinian Environment

Basic operating environment of the earth is that of Darwinian process since the appearance of the lowest form of life on the earth. Realization and understanding of this fact is imperative. After the advent of homo sapience, non-Darwinian concepts were injected in the form of ethics, religion and other ideologies. However, when push comes to shove, it always regresses to Darwinian process. However, because of the axioms that are presented here, the earth-man relation is approaching this "push to shove" condition.

Various Ideologies in Operation

Prevailing economic environment of Adam Smith's market Economy is Darwinian. During a strong economic competition, someone is bound to lose. This loser is categorized as "non-fit". Concept of Democracy is non-Darwinian, because in the Darwinian environment, everyone is not equal. Thus if one supports democracy and and market economy simultaneously, there is a self contradiction. Adjustment is needed here.

Marxism, in theory, is somewhat non-Darwinian. However, in practice, it was not. Basic difficulties of Marxism is its inefficiency in the Darwinian environment. Thus it was demised. However, it is ironical to note that Marxism's central theme, i.e. Hegelian Dialectic's synthesis, utopia may be attained through market economy and capitalism but ultimate winner could be majority, i.e. proletariat. Thus Marxism may have lost its place by the end of the 20th century but it may prevail in a new form in the 21st century.

Partly because of the closed form of the world, "the selected better" cannot exceed without limit. Majorities of "less fortunate" have more basic instinct to live, which appears much stronger than the aspiration of "selected better " to get better.

This may appear regression in the western civilization, but it appears the way pendulum swings in the 21st century. In any case, we cannot ignore a formidable force of Darwinian environment in discussing any of our future ideologies. Darwinian system is like thermodynamic entropy. If we don't do anything, it will expand. The driving force is Darwinian but that very action makes the world non-Darwinian in 21st century. All of the above new phenomena are taking place because of the three axioms in the previous paragraphs and men's will to preserve ourselves.

In the next paper, we will review market economy critically by using actual examples why it is slowing down. New theory of Economic Divergence was advanced. It explains why Japan's economy is slowing down. Japan could have taken a few remedial steps at the time of economic prosperity to avoid the current problems. Economic tidal wave theory also predicted the current situations.

What is important about San Francisco Peace Treaty is that it is an example of how Japan recovered from the WWII devastation with respecting the Peace Treaty. When the war was over, Japan never have tried negative subversive destruction against the world. She concentrated on the recovery of the country positively. The world should learn how constructively San Francisco Peace Treaty worked for the world and how well Japan cooperated with a spirit of positive contributions to the world.

The current atmosphere of getting even at the society and the world when one has dissatisfaction of his or her own is destructive to the earth-man system. No matter how small one's contribution to the world, it should be positive. Many small positive contributions can advance a country afar peacefully. We need this spirit of cooperation and the time is NOW!
